Rudy Giuliani, "America's Mayor", endorses Meg Whitman
October 07, 2009
CUPERTINO - Meg Whitman, Republican candidate for Governor, announced Oct. 7 2009 the endorsement of Rudy Giuliani, former Mayor of New York City and 2008 Republican candidate for President.
"Rudy Giuliani's reputation as a leader who takes on challenges and makes the tough choices necessary to improve people's lives is well deserved. Whether responding to tragedy or fixing broken government programs, Giuliani's leadership is a model for getting results," said Whitman. "I am grateful for Mayor Giuliani's support."
"Meg Whitman is simply the best person to lead our country's largest state," Giuliani said. "Meg's disciplined focus on creating jobs, cutting wasteful spending and improving education is the right course for California. I also believe that Meg Whitman can help reenergize the grassroots of the Republican party."
Meg Whitman has received endorsements from former California Governor Pete Wilson, former Republican gubernatorial nominee Bill Simon and California Congressmen Darrell Issa, Kevin McCarthy and John Campbell, among others. Additionally, Whitman is endorsed by national Republican leaders Senator John McCain, former Governor Mitt Romney and Republican Minority Whip Eric Cantor.
Rudy Giuliani served as U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York, prior to his successful run for New York Mayor in 1993. While serving as Mayor, Rudy Giuliani championed conservative causes by dramatically improving the city's public safety, its welfare-to-work program and its public schools. He was a leading GOP presidential candidate in 2008 and is appropriately known as "America's Mayor" after leading a heroic response to the tragic terrorist attacks on September 11th, 2001.
