Voters see sincere, trustworthy leader in Meg

LOS ANGELES -- Across the state, Meg Whitman has been describing her vision of creating jobs, cutting government spending and fixing public education. Supporters she met with in Lafayette and Los Angeles this week say she’s the only candidate in the race who they believe can take on the job and actually get things done.

They say they’re tired of the career politicians who promise the world, who say one thing and do another. In Meg, they’re finding a sincere leader who isn’t over-promising but, instead, will focus on key priorities.

“Every day I get asked, can this be fixed? Can we really return California to its proper position? And the answer is ‘yes.’ But I am a deep believer that you’ve got to set it up and knock it down,” Meg told the crowd at a campaign event in Los Angeles. “You’ve got to mean what you say, you’ve got to say what you mean and you actually have to deliver the results.”

Voters see Meg as a resilient leader who’s not afraid to take action because they’ve seen her do it before.

With the state in fiscal meltdown, voters in Southern California say it’s time for a governor who can be trusted to make much-needed changes in Sacramento and deliver the results.

“She has the experience, she has the knowledge to run this state effectively,” said Jason Lee, an attorney from Pasadena. “She’s going to be the responsible leader, the responsible governor of this state. She’s not going to just deliver empty talk, she’s going to deliver results. I have trust in her.”

Lee was one of nearly 200 people who turned out Wednesday to hear Meg speak at a grassroots event in Los Angeles. There, she rallied support for her campaign and asked Californians to work together to revitalize the state.

Martha House, the Los Angeles County regional director for the MEGaWomen coalition, introduced Meg at Wednesday’s event, calling her “the most qualified candidate” for governor and a proven job-creator who can move California forward.
House asked the GOP to unite behind Meg and called her the best candidate to lead the Republican ticket in the fall.

“I think Meg’s reputation precedes her -- she doesn’t just talk the talk, she has walked the walk,” House said after the event. “And I don’t think she’s afraid of people not liking her. In order to make an omelet, you’re going to have to break some eggs, and Meg has done that.”
