I understand that California needs to cut costs and maybe some services, How do you accomplish that when you need 2/3 of the legislature to go along with it? That is why California is a mess - the only way out is by increasing taxes. How will Meg resolve this problem?

    Vella,

Your frustration with Sacramento is shared by many who come to this forum to learn more about Meg’s experience in the private sector and her plan for A New California . She will bring better management and business sense to Sacramento and has real world experience creating jobs and managing disciplined budgets. She also has a plan to hold politicians accountable. As Governor she will publicize performance goals and results and use the power of the veto pen to reduce the size of government. However, she could not disagree with you more about increasing taxes. As she said today in an interview on CNBC, “We've got to put people back to work. That’s how we increase revenues. I don't mean taxes. I mean putting people back to work. Without employers or employees the tax base is going to continue to decline.” Meg’s number one priority is to create job opportunities for hard working Californians and an environment for businesses of all sizes to thrive by eliminating unnecessary regulations.

Meg’s ability to focus on important issues and her profound leadership skills are what California needs to get out of the mess we’re in, but she can’t do it alone. I encourage you to stay involved on this forum as we work together to help Meg build A New California by creating jobs, cutting spending in Sacramento, and fixing our state’s educational system.

    Thank-You,

    Travis

    Before I support any politician,

I want to see who and what organizations support him or her.

If I feel these people or organizations are my enemies,

    so is the candidate.

    Shade,

Meg believes in the power of many and working with others to solve complex problems. This philosophy has contributed to her success in the private sector and is something that she will take with her to the Governor’s office. Thus far in the campaign she has been endorsed by her mentor Mitt Romney, Senator John McCain, former U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, and several elected leaders in California. Meg is also proud to have the endorsement of the Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association, one of California’s most respected non-partisan public policy organizations. Other organizations that support her agenda are the California Farm Labor Contractor’s Alliance, the Nisei Farmers League, the California Women’s Leadership Association, and the California Floral Council. For more details on her specific endorsements go to the “UNITE” tab at the top of the page and select “Endorsements” in the drop down menu. As the election process unfolds you will surely hear many more people and organizations speak out in support of Meg, so be sure to stay tuned.

These endorsements illustrate the momentum behind Meg’s campaign and her vision for A New California by creating jobs, cutting spending and fixing education. The most important endorsement Meg can receive is that of the California voter on election day, that is why she continues (and will continue) to travel all over our beautiful state to get her message to the voters and hear from them herself.

Hello...I am very intrigued and impressed by Meg's advertising campaign. Her ideas are easy to undersatnd and have enourmous potential to help California. I am the proud owner of a 3rd generation family business based n Southern California. This is a business that my Grandfather started in 1941. The current economy in addtion to other issues make it very challenging to operate a business in this State. What can Meg do to help and how can I contact her for futre business opportunities?
  • 03/02/10 3:32pm PST Travis
    Anthony,

Many Californians have reacted with the same enthusiasm and intrigue since Meg hit the airwaves to get her message of building A New California out to voters. Like you, Meg takes pride in her accomplishments in the private sector but is also concerned about the future success of our state due to a challenging business climate. As governor, Meg would create an environment that would make it easier for businesses to operate and create jobs for Californians. Among her solutions are plans to enact permanent marginal tax rate reductions for the middle class, cut taxes for job-creating businesses of every size, lower the capital gains tax, exempt purchases of manufacturing equipment from state sales tax, reduce the regulatory burden, and much more.

The best way to stay involved is by registering on this website and by connecting with Meg through social networks such as Facebook and Twitter. You can find her on Twitter by searching for @Whitman2010.

Hello my name is Thomas Cartier I am a Iraqi disabled war veteran. How does Meg Whitman feel about the states policies on veterans and disabled veterans. Does she feel that their may be room for improvement or does she have any plans for californian veterans.
  • 02/26/10 1:42pm PST Travis
    Mr. Cartier,

On behalf of Meg and the campaign, thank you for serving our country in the armed forces. Meg is focused on issues that matter to all Californians such as creating jobs, cutting spending, and fixing our state’s educational system. Cutting wasteful spending in Sacramento will increase California’s capacity to invest in important areas, such as caring for our veterans. Meg wants to create a robust business climate so that we can maximize opportunities for job growth; the men and women who serve our country deserve every opportunity possible to apply the skills they obtained in the armed services in a private sector that welcomes them with opportunities after their service.

    Respectfully,

    Travis

If you elected, how will you cut state costs?

I suggest the elimination of the California Air Resourses Board (CARB)- -that would cut about 1 Billion dollars from direct state costs as well as billions of dollars of costs due to the implementation costs to the population due to crazy regulations for diesel engine retrofit.

    kgreywolf,

Thank you very much for taking the time to contact Meg about your concerns. Correspondence like yours is very important to her and to the campaign.

If elected governor, Meg will create a sunset review commission that regularly evaluates the relevancy and performance of departments and regulations so Californians have a lean modern government. If a department does not meet expectations or is not making adequate use of funding it will be reviewed and restructured to ensure citizens are receiving adequate return for their tax dollars. As a former CEO of eBay, Meg has the necessary experience to ensure state programs and departments are efficiently run and are producing the greatest results with the least spending. This type of fiscally responsible management is paramount in rebuilding California and ensuring the state is the very best it can be.

    Thank you again for question.

    Dear Meg,

I have seen many of your ads and while I applaud your vision, it strikes me as a little too much "Mom and Apple Pie". I can't imagine anyone disputing what you want. However, the key for me and many others is the ability to make changes.

Being the chief adminstrator for the State of California is not the same as CEO of Ebay, no matter how many ads tell me it is. You enjoyed absolute authority and while concensus may have been important, at the end of day, it was a process and path that you had the luxury to choose, not what the environment dictated.

California is in bad shape, there is no doubt. The ability to work closely with each legislative branch is critical to success as is the ability to understand that while taxpayers don't want to pay for things, they think its an inalienable right that the garbage is picked up, the electricity runs and government takes care of the needy.

So the question is how, in real concrete terms will you change this state. I know we need jobs, I know education system is a mess, I know the business climate is hurtful. I don't want to elect someone who is going to learn the system, I want someone to come and fundamentally change it and not by rhetoric. Its time for real answers, not the ones that get you through an election.

    Thanks for your time.

    sndr8kr,

Thank you very much for taking the time to submit your questions and voice your concerns. Meg is very much aware of the crisis of confidence in California and strongly believes there is a path to recovery.

While it is true that the job descriptions for Governor of California and CEO of eBay are very different, there is a tremendous amount of experience Meg gained while at eBay that will play an important role in reforming the state of California. She has real world experience creating jobs and managing large organizations and putting in place disciplined budgets. She possesses the necessary skills to ensure the California government is operating with efficiency and to the best of its potential.

As governor, Meg plans to hold politicians accountable and will publicize performance goals and results. She will use the make full use of the veto pen to reduce the size of government and eliminate unnecessary and wasteful spending. As a taxpayer you deserve to trust in your government and the confidence that it is providing you the best results for your investment.

For further information on how Meg will bring change to Sacramento please visit www.MegWhitman.com and browse through her policy information.

Thank you again for your questions. Correspondence like yours is very important to Meg and to the campaign.

Dear Meg Whitman, I viewed 2 of your television ads and am disappointed that, in today's world, you have very limited diverse individuals endorsing you or at least appearing in your ads. Even before getting to know the views of the candidate, I look for diverse individuals supporting that candidate. I am African American and I do not see anyone like that appearing in your ads. By no means am I saying that we all think alike, but I am making an observation that is disturbing to me regarding your candidacy.

Assuming that the candidate is qualified, it is not the party that determines my support for the candidate but the diversity of the candidate's supporters. I would like to think that the more individuals are surrounded by diverse individuals, the more diverse they are in their thoughts and actions. To me that is the core of our Country and that is why I was amazed at the lack of representation in your ads.

I know my opinion won't matter to you and probably will not even make it to your email to be read, however, I felt compelled to let you know how I felt.

Thank you for the opportunity to share.

    Molly,

Thank you for sharing your concerns and perspective. Meg’s supporters are as diverse as the California electorate. First of all, Meg will be the first female governor elected in our state’s history, which gives her a unique foundation of support to build upon. We have a strong women’s coalition known as MEGaWomen. Our volunteers and supporters are from all different backgrounds (both in terms of diversity, professions, interests, etc). We are always open to suggestions and ideas on how we can reach more people. We’ve organized a very strong Latino coalition as well as great youth and Asian coalitions and are building our African American coalition.

Our African American Coalition is currently underway and expanding every day. Currently, we have 3 regional director representatives in the following areas – Central Valley, Los Angeles and Sacramento/Northern California. Soon we will have many more! If you or anyone you know is interested in joining, have them contact our Deputy Coalitions Director, Araceli Gonzalez, by emailing her at agonzalez@megwhitman.com. Furthermore, there is a Los Angeles meeting for the African American Coalition and Latino Coalition happening on Monday, March 8, 2010. If you are near this area and interested in learning more, RSVP to: msannetteramirez@yahoo.com.

Rest assured, Meg is committed to growing the Republican Party in California.

    Respectfully,

    Travis

As a voter and small business owner and gay man, I tend to lean fiscally-conservative but lean socially-liberal. I've been hesitant to vote Republican in the past (although I have).

This is what worries me: While calling for a smaller, less intrusive government, the Republican Party, in the same breath, calls for government to play a larger role in determining our individual morality. You can see this in a woman's right to choose, rights for same-sex couples and their families, scientific research (stem-cell), and religion (creationism education).

I am disappointed that she believes the government should pick which consenting adults should be able to marry each other. Just as she doesn't believe in abortions but believes a woman should have the right to make her own choice, I should have the choice of who I marry without the government making the decision for me. This unfortunately is a huge obstacle for winning my support.

I am glad to hear she is concerned about the environment, clean-air and clean water. I hope she can balance responsible, but needed, growth and development with the need to protect the earth. What is her beliefs regarding climate change and green-house gases and where does government fit in?
